2023 PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

Private swim lessons are available at PG Pool for children and adults from our swim instructors. Private lessons are available to members and people on the waitlist. Log in to your pgpool.org account and visit the Private Lessons page for more information.

2023 GROUP SWIM LESSONS

We will offer four 2-week sessions at PG Pool in the morning and evening. Each session has nine classes (Monday to Friday of week one, Monday to Thursday of week two). A make-up day is scheduled for the second Friday in each session as needed. Beginner level classes are 30-minutes and Intermediate classes are 45-minute.  Each class instructor has been trained and attends regular staff meetings. All classes have at least one junior instructor and are kept small.

MINIMUM AGE:

Children must be 3 years of age by the first day of the session you are signing up for in order to be eligible for swimming lessons.

Session 1: 6/12-6/23, 2023 Mon-Fri
Beginner level classes 4:00-4:30pm
Intermediate level classes 4:15-5:00pm

Session 2: 6/26-7/7, 2023 Mon-Fri
Beginner level classes 8:30-9:00am or 4:00-4:30pm
Intermediate level classes 9:15-10:00am or 4:15-5:00pm
No classes on 7/4

Session 3: 7/10-7/21, 2023 Mon-Fri
Beginner level classes 8:30-9:00am or 4:00-4:30pm
Intermediate level classes 9:15-10:00am or 4:15-5:00pm

Session 4: 7/24-8/4, 2023 Mon-Fri
Beginner level classes 8:30-9:00am or 4:00-4:30pm
Intermediate level classes 9:15-10:00am or 4:15-5:00pm

POLICIES AND COSTS

Inclement weather and pool closing
Cancellations of classes will be sent to the contact email provided at registration as well as posted to the PG Pool Facebook Group. Makeup classes are only scheduled on available Fridays for a given session.

Refunds
There will be no registration refunds issued after the Friday before each session begins as we staff our classes based on the number of swimmers registered per class.

Class size
Each class is limited to 7 students

Costs
The cost for each two-week session is $120

REGISTRATION DEADLINES:

Registration deadlines are the WEDNESDAY night the week before each two-week session begins. Please be mindful of our registration deadlines. Late registration inquiries will be considered based on availability and will incur an additional fee of $25. We are not able to accommodate half or split sessions. You are welcome to register your child, but will be responsible for the entire fee.

REGISTRATION

When filling out a registration form, please refer to the skill level descriptors and choose one that best meets your child’s current ability level. Please note that Beginner 1 is for swimmers with little or no experience in the water. If you are unsure of your child’s ability at this time, please contact one of the program managers for guidance. At the end of the session in order to advance to the next level, students must be able to confidently demonstrate the skills for the given level.

  • Beginner 1 (30 minutes):
    Objective: To foster a positive experience in the water, foster confidence, good swimming habits and safe practices around the water.
    Swimmers will learn to:

    • Enter and exit water safely
    • Fully submerge face in water
    • Blowing bubbles through mouth and nose
    • Float on front and back with support
    • Kick on front and back with support
    • Enter and exit the water independently
  • Beginner 2 (30 minutes):
    Objective: To establish a foundation for swimming by learning fundamental skills. Students will learn to float and recover to a vertical position.
    Swimmers will learn to:

    • Float on front and back unsupported for 5 seconds
    • Swim on front for 5 yards without assistance
    • Swim on back for 5 yards without assistance
    • Retrieve objects under water chest deep
    • Perform “bobs” in shallow water
    • Jump into shallow water without assistance
  • Advanced Beginner (30 minutes):
    Objective: To build upon skills acquired in Beginner 1 and 2 and develop strokes through additional guided practice in deeper water.
    Swimmers will learn to:

    • Jump into deeper water from the side
    • Dive from sitting and kneeling positions, in water at least 9 feet deep
    • Deep water “bobs” (5 feet)
    • Rotary breathing
    • Tread water
    • Swim front and back crawl
    • Water safety
  • Intermediate I (45 minutes):
    Objective: To develop confidence and strength to improve stroke technique and introduce new aquatic skills.
    Swimmers will learn to:

    • Swim elementary backstroke
    • Swim front and back crawl (freestyle/backstroke) for 25 yards (short pool length)
    • Breaststroke and sidestroke kick with kickboard
    • Diving
    • Swim underwater
    • Water safety
  • Intermediate II (45 minutes):
    Objective: To provide further coordination and refinement of strokes and endurance.
    Swimmers will learn to:

    • Tread water for 2 minutes
    • Survival float
    • Sculling
    • Dolphin kick and introduction to butterfly
    • Diving
    • Water safety
    • Stroke technique

CLASS SCHEDULES:

The roster for all sessions will be emailed. If you have not received an email by Saturday evening before the session, please contact one of the managers.

If you have a special reason to request a definite time, please email Hugh and every effort will be made to honor that. However, we can’t guarantee that all requests will be honored.
